If you're familiar with the kitchener stitch, you may prefer to work this BO in this way: Transfer all of the knit stitches to one needle, and behind this needle, place all the purl stitches on a second needle. Sew the stitches from the two needles together, as for the kitchener stitch.

Double pointed needles, if you get frustrated with the aluminum needles sliding out of your work these wooden ones would solve that problem. Straight needles; most people prefer aluminum for these needles because your work slides easier. Cable needles; wooden needles would work well for these because a cable stitch can be made more difficult with slippery aluminum needles
